The Continuing Fight for Medical Marijuana
Well -- it looks as though we may be one step closer to the legalization of our favourite herb. The ACLU has gotten a judge to submit an official recommendation to the DEA to end the prohibition on marijuana's production for medical purposes. From the article:
On May 15, DEA Administrative Law Judge Mary Ellen Bittner submitted her recommendation to the DEA's Deputy Administrator in which she found that it is "in the public interest" to end the federal monopoly on the supply of marijuana that can be used in FDA-approved research, held by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
While this isn't the end of marijuana's illegality, we think that it certainly is a step in the right direction. Once the public learns to recognize that the herb has a variety of medicinal uses, they may start to question the all-too-common It's bad because it's illegal. It's illegal because it's bad logic so pervasive in today's media.
The legalization of marijuana would come as a relief to many citizens -- it's useful for everything from headaches to insomnia. In fact, it is currently suspected that marijuana may be a safer treatment for pain-relief than Advil.
Now we here at The Straight Toke do not condone the use of anything that is illegal in your country/state/region -- so without further ado, we present the following without commentary:
